Daly STARR Parent Information Letter

Daly S.T.A.R.R. Students

Dear Parents,

We believe every student is a S.T.A.R.R. Student at Daly. This year, we will continue to implement a new positive reinforcement plan at Daly School. This program is designed to motivate and recognize students for demonstrating exemplary conduct and character. To highlight the attributes we wish to cultivate and nurture for all of our students, the Daly Character Education Committee members created the acronym, S.T.A.R.R.

S – Safe
T – Truthful
A – Accepting
R – Respectful
R -- Responsible

Safe- Students will learn to always be mindful and refrain from actions that can cause danger or injury to themselves or others.

Truthful- Students will learn the importance of honesty.

Accepting- Students will learn to accept the differences in others and treat people the way they wish to be treated.

Respectful- Students will learn to treat themselves and others in an appropriate manner.

Responsible- Students will learn to be accountable for themselves and their actions.

As a school community, we will lead by example and give frequent and specific verbal acknowledgement and praise to children “caught” in the act of being S.T.A.R.R. students. Classroom bulletin boards will highlight individuals who demonstrate model S.T.A.R.R. behavior and certificates will be distributed. In the event a student is having difficulty exhibiting S.T.A.R.R. characteristics, parents/guardians will be notified and a consequence will be given as outlined by the Port Washington UFSD Board Approved Code of Conduct.

The Daly S.T.A.R.R.s are going to shine this year.

Welcome back,

The Character Education Committee
