Dear Daly Families:
We have had a wonderful school year thus far. As we all prepare for the upcoming winter break, safety is still a priority. It has been brought to my attention that a dangerous situation is occurring every day during the morning drop off on Rockwood Avenue. As safety is the highest priority at Daly, I am insisting on everyone’s complete cooperation in following the proper procedures when driving children to school and dropping them off.
These rules MUST be followed at all times:
Cars must access Rockwood Avenue from Highfield Avenue only – Rockwood is a one-way street during the school day.
For children who are able to exit the car without help, cars should line up along the curb in the drop off area, which starts at the end of the yellow curb and the sign stating “Student Drop Off” and ends at the start of the bus driveway. Parents may not exit their cars for any reason in this area. Children may exit the car from the curb side of the car only. Cars may not block the bus driveway, and children may not exit the cars and walk across the bus driveway.
If you need to exit your car for any reason (helping to unbuckle your child, helping with backpacks, etc.) and even if it is for “just a moment” you MUST pull up beyond the drop off area, park against the curb, and turn off your motor before exiting the car. Your child may then exit from the curb side of the car.
The crossing guard’s directions MUST be followed at all times. He has been trained to establish and maintain the safest possible environment for all our students outside and needs your cooperation.
Our previous crossing guard had been hit by a car several times over the years, and we have had a few close calls involving students. Therefore, these rules are non-negotiable and will be strictly enforced.
If you have any questions, please call me in the office.
Thank you for all your support. Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy new year!
Lucia Laguarda,
Principal
