Superintendent’s Message: Remote Instruction Day – Monday, February 23

Dear Port Washington Families,

By now you have likely seen that a significant winter storm is forecasted for our area. As a result, schools will be closed on Monday, February 23, 2026, and we will transition to a Remote Instruction Day. Remote instruction allows us to preserve our instructional calendar and meet the required number of school days while keeping our community safe.

Our remote instruction day will follow a two-hour delay schedule, meaning the school day will begin two hours later than usual but will conclude at the regular dismissal time.

Students should log into Google Classroom to access their Google Meet links and instructional materials. Teachers will use a combination of live instruction and independent work, and attendance will be taken at the start of each instructional period. Elementary specials, AIS, ENL, and related services will meet virtually following their regular schedules. Building-specific details will be shared by your child’s principal.

Because we are coming off of February recess, our Pre-K through Grade 2 students did not bring their school-issued iPads home. We recognize that some students may not have access to a device. Please communicate directly with your child’s teacher if technology access is a challenge. We understand the circumstances and will work with families to provide flexibility and support.

All after-school and evening activities are canceled. Transportation to BOCES, private, parochial, and special needs schools is also canceled.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership and understanding. Please stay safe and warm.

Sincerely,

Gaurav Passi, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
