Daly Elementary’s Viking Starrbots Rise to the Challenge

The fourth and fifth grade students of the Lego Robotics Club at Daly Elementary School wrapped up a successful 2025–26 season competing in the FIRST Lego League Challenge against schools from across Long Island.

Guided by this year’s theme, “Unearthed,” students stepped into the role of young engineers and archaeologists. Over six months, they worked together to design, build, and program a Lego robot capable of completing complex missions and scoring points during competition.

Beyond the engineering challenge, the team also demonstrated strong research and problem-solving skills. Students investigated a real-world challenge faced by modern archaeologists and developed an innovative solution, which they confidently presented to judges while answering thoughtful and challenging questions.

One highlight of the season was the opportunity for students to videoconference with an expert in the field prior to the tournament, helping deepen their understanding of archaeology and inspire their project work.

The dedication, creativity, and teamwork displayed throughout the season truly captured the spirit of FIRST Lego League. Through the experience, the Viking Starrbots discovered what curiosity, persistence, and collaboration can achieve.

Club advisor Kimberly Pinto praised the students’ growth throughout the process and looks forward to seeing them carry the innovative spirit and skills they developed this year into future challenges.

The program was made possible through the generous support of the Ed Foundation, which funded the full grant for the club. The Daly HSA also provided additional support throughout the season.

Congratulations to the Viking Starrbots on an inspiring season!
