Attendance

ABSENCES
Absence calls must be made to the attendance line by the morning of the actual day absent (516-767-5211).

When leaving a message, include the reason for the absence so that it can be properly noted on your child’s record.  If no reason is given, the absence will be marked as “AU” (unexcused) and “NRG” will be noted as the reason.  The terms “excused” and “unexcused” refer to the reason for the absence, not whether or not the parents informed us that the child is absent.

A reminder – NYS law requires a written note from the parent/guardian for all school absences. Please be sure to send one in with your child upon their return to school.

LATENESS
All students that come to school after the start of the day, after 8:05 am, must be brought by an adult to the main building entrance on Rockwood Avenue and enter through the security desk.  Please walk your child up the steps and buzz.  It is imperative that you know your child’s teacher name so that we can alert child’s teacher that student is late and coming to class.

EARLY PICK-UP
Students are dismissed each day based on the information we have on record.  All changes to a child’s dismissal, whether permanent or temporary, must be requested in writing by the parent/guardian and sent with the child’s backpack or via email to [email protected] by 10:30 am.

DISMISSAL CHANGES
E-mails requesting a change in your child’s dismissal should be sent to [email protected] before 10:30 a.m. on the day of the requested change

These e-mails are opened and read once a day, at 10:30 a.m., and a confirmation that we received your e-mail will be sent shortly after 10:30 a.m. The e-mails are then printed, placed in teachers’ mailboxes, and picked up by during their lunchtime.  Emails coming in after 10:30 a.m. will generally not be seen until the next day.  If you have an emergency and must request a change after the 10:30 a.m. deadline, do not send an e-mail without calling the office first to alert us and we will then reopen the e-mails to look for your message.

Please do not send a dismissal e-mail directly to the teacher without also sending it to [email protected]. Teachers cannot always check their email while teaching, and if he/she is absent, the substitute will not get the message.

If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail, assume that we did not get the message – please call the office to check.

Alternatively, a written note changing your child’s dismissal may be sent in your child’s backpack. If you are picking up your child early (before lunchtime), please send a written note to the teacher, instead of emailing it, so that the teacher will be aware.
